The
Program
This
intensive three-day short course focuses on the fundamentals
and principals that govern and explain the interactions
of fluids with porous media. A comprehensive review of the
basic principles is presented, accompanied by laboratory
demonstrations. Special topics cover cutting-edge industrial
and academic research in the field.

The
Faculty
Dr.
Gerardo Callegari, Staff Scientist, TRI/Princeton, received
his Ph.D. in Physics from Buenos Aires University, Argentina
on the topic "Dewetting in simple geometries." Dr.
Callegari's research interests include interfacial phenomena:
wetting, de-wetting and movement of the contact line, as well
as characterization of the transport properties of porous
materials. He has written more than 60 publications and presentations
in the field. He was awarded with the 3 consecutive Buenos
Aires University research fellowships before joining TRI in
2003.
Dr.
Ilya Tyomkin, Principal Scientist, TRI/Princeton is
the inventor of automated liquid porosimetry, a versatile
technique to study pore structure and wetting properties of
porous materials. During a career with TRI that has spanned
more than 20 years, Dr. Tyomkin has designed and developed
a number of original research methodologies and instruments
for fluid flow and materials characterization. He actively
participates in numerous science and research projects for
industrial companies.

Lecturers
Dr.
Phil Gibson, Materials Research Engineer, U.S. Army Natick
Soldier Research, Development, and Engineering Center has
worked on research and development in the areas of heat and
mass transfer through porous materials, ballistic protection,
the development of novel chemical protective uniform materials,
and blast protection. He has written or contributed to over
150 publications/reports/presentations and several patents.
Dr.
Yash K. Kamath, President, Kamath Consulting Inc.
recently retired from TRI following a 34-year career as a
key contributor to numerous projects, including fiber finish
distribution; carpet performance; dye transport phenomena;
surface controlled properties of fibrous structures; and formaldehyde
release from durable press fabrics. In 2002, Dr. Kamath was
awarded an Honorary Membership to the Fiber Society in recognition
of his outstanding career as a fiber and polymer scientist.
Dr.
Konstantin Kornev, Associate Professor, School of Materials
Science & Engineering, Clemson University is an
expert in Hele-Shaw flows, flows through porous media, phase
transitions in forced flows, flow and rheology of complex
fluids, and micro and nanofluidics. Dr. Kornev received his
MS in Mechanics and Mathematics and his PhD in Physics and
Mathematics from Kazan State University, Russia. A former
employee of TRI, Dr. Kornev has written a monograph on the
subject of foams in porous media and has authored more than
60 technical papers.

Fee
is payable in US funds net of all charges and includes
tuition, course materials, first-night welcome reception,
breakfasts, refreshment breaks, and lunches.
Registration
Deadline: April 15, 2008. All payments must be received
by this date.
Multiple
Registration Discount is for two or more attendees
from the same company registering at the same time, for the
same course.
Cancellation
Policy: Cancellations made on or before April 15,
2008 will receive a refund in the amount of their payment,
minus a $100 administrative fee. Cancellations made after
April 15, 2008 will receive a refund in the amount of their
payment, minus a $200 administrative fee. Registrations can
be transferred to another course date or to another registrant
at no charge.
