About the Course:
TRI, the internationally recognized institute for hair research is proud to offer Human Hair/Cosmetic Interactions: Fundamentals & Methodology in two locations in 2012: Manchester, UK and at our facility in Princeton, New Jersey. Now moderated by TRI Director of Measurement Science, Dr. Trefor Evans, this course is an in-depth examination of the science of hair and hair care products.
Based on customer feedback we have broadened the focus of the course and brought in a group of renowned external speakers including:
|
Alan Swift (both locations) |
Randy Wickett (Princeton only) |
Jim Anderson (Princeton only) |
|
Gillian Westgate (Manchester only) |
Chris Gummer (Manchester only) |
Franz Wortmann (Manchester only) |
The instructors approach the material from a fundamental perspective, offering students the opportunity to closely examine the basic structure of hair, of hair care products, and interactions between the two. The style of this course is a unique approach which provides researchers with the fundamental scientific principles important to the hair care industry.
Participants will gain knowledge and understanding of the principles of hair and hair product interactions; thereby enhancing their skills for future research. Demonstrations will be used to provide an in-depth approach to explaining techniques.
The class size for all TRI short courses is limited in order to provide all participants with an intense, personalized learning environment. Additionally, it is TRI’s intention to foster networking amongst researchers in the field, and time is built into the course to allow for this value-added opportunity.
This is the right course for people working in research and development in technology-based innovation, including but not limited to:
- Hair research,
- Product development,
- Claims substantiation,
- Performance testing.
Unique Features of this Course
- Based on the premise that an understanding of how cosmetic treatments affect human hair properties is critical for the development of successful products
- Covers the current concepts of hair fiber structure and morphology
- Provides fundamental background for specific characterization methods
- Explores the effects of treatments on the surface and bulk properties of single hair fibers and hair assemblies
- Discusses methods for the objective, quantitative measurement of treatment effects
- Discusses hair product claims as they revolve around attributes of hair and their instrumental evaluation (Manchester only)
