A closer look at the growing emphasis on smart, two-faced and nanostructured particles and their many applications in personal care formulations

11/2007 -- One very noticeable hair care trend is the increasing use of nanostructured or “smart” particles to impart desirable attributes to hair. This drive appears to have been initiated by an emphasis on amphipathic particles that started about a decade ago. The concept of using amphipathic particles as emulsion stabilizers was originally introduced in 1907 by Pickering who discovered the stabilization of oil and water emulsion by colloidal particles situated at the interfacial region between dispersed and continuous phases to form a thin film which provides mechanical stabilization. TRI will present a poster entitled "The TRI Hair Testing Toolbox" at the SCC Technology Showcase on December 6-7 in New York, NY. Dr. Trefor Evans, Mr. Don Harper, Dr. Prakash Naiksatam, Dr. Ram Ramaprasad, and Dr. Jeff Yang will represent TRI at the event.

Dr. Ram Ramaprasad and Dr. Peter Kaplan attended the Eastern Analytical Symposium & Exposition on November 12-14 in Somerset, NJ.

Call for Papers: Third International Conference on Applied Hair Science on September 15-16, 2008. We are seeking papers for the Third International Conference on Applied Hair Science. This event will give the hair care industry an innovative, sophisticated forum to discuss ideas, learn cutting-edge techniques and methods, and radically enhance the quality and efficacy of their products.
