A One-Day, Hands on Laboratory Experience
October 6, 2011
The Program
This one-day hands on laboratory workshop spotlights the practical application of hair evaluation methods in a small group laboratory setting including preparing and running samples through the instruments, reviewing the data and generating results.
About the Course
For the first time ever, students at a TRI Professional Education Workshop will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on training of claims methods utilized at TRI to measure hair properties and provide validation for marketing claims made about hair products. By participating in this individualized practicum, preparing and running samples through the instruments, reviewing the data and generating results, students will become skilled in the fine points of each method.
The day begins with an introductory lecture providing a general overview for the day and addressing laboratory safety, tress /sample preparation, and a review of statistical relevancy of data. The majority of the day will be spent in small groups rotating through the TRI laboratories operating the equipment, running hair evaluation methods in the areas of:
| Strength and Anti-Breakage | Manageability and Product Application |
| Appearance | Style Retention (including software analysis) |
| Shine | Curl Droop |
| Color | Anti-Frizz |
| Color- Fade | Stiffness |
The day concludes with a caucus on data analysis, tips for successful experimental design, and an overview of the learned techniques in ongoing areas of new research.
This course will be moderated by Dr. Trefor Evans, Principal Scientist at TRI with more than 18 years experience in the hair care industry. Additional instructors include the TRI staff methods experts.
