FIRST TRI TALK OF 2025/26 SEASON: A STRAIGHT SUCCESS
This first TRI Talk of the 2025/26 season, given by Murielle Mason (Senior Research associate, TRI Princeton) was a great success and well-received by those in attendance, stimulating an abundance of questions and further discussions afterwards. A total of 154 people registered to listen to Murielle’s talk, entitled “Pin Straight to Ringlet Coil and Every Frizz In Between: Laboratory Methods that Quantify Straightness and Alignment”. The presentation featured research undertaken in partnership with Bossa Nova Vision (USA) and Ayton Global Research (UK). Those who registered can playback the talk on Zoom using the smart link provided in the registration email. Those with access to the TRI Library can watch it back here (no need for registration).

After an overview of RUMBA instrument, from Bossa Nova Vision, Murielle outlined the two research questions that were under investigation:
1. What words do consumers use in different parts of the world to describe the attributes of hair appearance?
2. To what extent can consumers perceive differences in hair straightness and frizz, and does consumer perception relate directly to the measurements made by the Rumba?
If you missed the talk and would like to watch it again, head to your original Zoom link and it should be available on playback until the end of the Series in 2026. Recordings and slides are also available in the TRI Library. Previous sets of TRI Talks are also available as Box Sets in the library. Non-library members can purchase access to these for $25 per set.
