MURIELLE MASON WILL PRESENT ON:

‘PIN STRAIGHT TO RIGLET COIL AND EVERY FRIZZ IN BETWEEN:  LABORATORY METHODS THAT QUANTIFY STRAIGHTNESS AND ALIGNMENT’

The TRI Talks are 60-minute on-line seminars on a wide range of topics designed to both inform and to inspire new ways of thinking.  This new Series will include five talks from experts at TRI and will run from November 2025 to February 2026.  The Series kicks off with a presentation on Wednesday 19th November (1pm Eastern Time) from Murielle Mason (Senior Research Associate) titled ‘Pin Straight to Ringlet Coil and Every Frizz In Between: Laboratory Methods that Quantify Straightness and Alignment’. All the TRI Talks are free to join on-line. Recordings of the Talks will be available to registered attendees on Zoom after the event, and in the TRI Library for library users.

In the first TRI Talk, Murielle Mason, Senior Scientist in the Hair Claims team, will share the method she developed this year, together with Bossa Nova Vision (USA), for quantifying hair straightness.  The talk will trace the scientific insights that shaped the method and showcase the new technique’s impact on how TRI measures and interprets hair appearance.

After presenting this research at the 2025 DWI Conference in Augsburg, Germany, and the Annual SCS Meeting in London, Murielle now brings an expanded and detailed version of her research to the TRI Talks.

This presentation will also highlight the connections between technical laboratory measurements and consumer perception — including data collected, together with Ayton Global Research (UK), from over 1,000 panelist evaluations of hair attributes such as straightness, alignment, frizz, and curl definition.

Come discover how scientific precision meets reality in the world of beauty perception, and how this new methodology is shaping the next generation of TRI’s claims research.
