MEET OUR TEAM AT BOOTH 407

The 79th Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase is the must-attend event for anyone involved in the cosmetic industry.  TRI will be there both days in the showcase area at Booth 407.  Dr Samuel Gourion-Arsiquaud (Director, Skin and Bio-substrates) has a podium presentation on Tuesday December 16th in Session B, Hair & Scalp Health (9:30 am – 11:00 am).  Samuel’s talk is titled ‘Substantiating Hair Bond Repair Claims Using Confocal Raman Spectroscopy’.   In addition, Dr Marcelle Gabarra Almeida Leite (Skin and Bio-Substrates) has a podium presentation on Wednesday December 17th in Session G, Claims Substantiation (10:45 am – 12:15 pm).  Marcella’s talk is titled ‘Vibrational Spectroscopy during clinical evaluation to investigate skin and scalp physiology and support cosmetic claims’.

Samuel’s talk will outline how confocal Raman spectroscopy can be used to monitor the presence or absence of disulfide (S–S) bonds, which are critical for hair strength and shape, but being labile, are vulnerable to damage through chemical and thermal treatments.  Samuel will discuss how the number of disulfide bond present in hair protein structure changes when it is subjected to both chemical (bleaching, relaxing) and thermal (blow-drying, flat ironing) treatments and reveal the processes that are the most damaging.  In addition, he will outline how the efficacy of recovery treatments can be quantified, and studies on both rinse-off and leave-in repair treatments will be discussed.

Marcella’s talk will highlight the the application of in vivo ATR-FTIR spectroscopy (REMSpec) for skin surface analysis and in vivo Confocal Raman Spectroscopy for in-depth evaluation of skin and scalp physiology to support cosmetic testing.
