TRI PRINCETON JOINS GRUPO BOTICARIO IN CELEBRATING THE OPENING OF ITS NEW RESEARCH & SCIENCE CENTRE
On November 3rd, TRI Princeton was invited to participate in the official opening of Grupo Boticário’s new Research and Science Center - a major milestone for the second-largest beauty company in Brazil. The event brought together more than 50 journalists, influencers, scientists, and industry leaders for a program focused on research, hair biology, and the future of hair-care innovation.
As part of the program, Dr Ernesta Malinauskyte (Director, Hair Research, TRI Princeton), joined Clarice Sasson, Hair & Bath Category Director at Grupo Boticário, for a special panel discussion titled “The Biology of Hair Aging: What Really Changes Over Time.” Moderated by Emilia Bizzotto, the discussion provided a scientific and market-based perspective on a topic of growing global relevance. Advancing the Science of Hair Aging.
With over 40% of Brazilian women now aged 40+, and given the remarkable diversity of hair textures across the country, understanding hair aging has become a critical area for both research and consumer education. During the panel, Ernesta highlighted the difference between biological aging, driven by stem-cell exhaustion, hormonal shifts, mitochondrial decline, reduced sebum production, and microbiome imbalance, and environmental aging, which stems from chemical processing, UV exposure, pollution, and daily mechanical wear. Together, these processes produce the visible signs of aging: thinning, loss of shine, fragility, texture changes, and increased breakage
Clarice expanded on the strong emotional and practical concerns consumers express: loss of volume, dryness, frizz, greying, and the frustration that treatments tend to address symptoms rather than causes. Her perspective underscored the need for innovation grounded in the need for solutions that address not only symptoms but also underlying biological mechanisms. Grupo Boticário shared how its scientific strategy integrates microbiome research, genetic studies, and innovative testing platforms such as its bioprinted “3D Skin with Hair Follicle” model.

After the discussion, guests enjoyed touring Boticário’s new Research & Science Center, including laboratories in R&D and formulation, Fragrance development, claims substantiation testing, and manufacturing facilities.
A Warm and Memorable Visit to Curitiba
Beyond the scientific program, Grupo Boticário extended a warm welcome that made this visit truly special. Ernesta was invited to explore Curitiba, including the iconic Oscar Niemeyer Museum - a cultural and architectural landmark.
Capybaras
A highlight of the last day was an unexpected visit to a local pond inhabited by a family of capybaras, the beloved mascots of Curitiba. Thanks to the kindness of our driver, Rafael, Ernesta even had the opportunity to gently pet one - an unforgettable moment that added a personal touch to an already meaningful visit.
Looking Ahead
TRI Princeton is proud to collaborate with Grupo Boticário in advancing global hair-science research. This partnership reflects our shared mission: to translate rigorous scientific discovery into practical, effective solutions that benefit consumers across all hair types and cultural contexts. We look forward to continued collaboration and to the innovative research that will emerge from Boticário’s new Research Center.
